Setup the Zebra TC21/TC22 scanner

This article will help you setup your Zebra TC21 and TC22 scanner.

1. How to navigate through your TC21/TC22 scanner

Here are the basic actions you can take:

  1. If you click on the circle on the bottom-middle of your screen, it shows all the apps available on your Zebra phone.

  2. If you click on the inverted triangle, you can go back to the previous activity you were doing on your scanner

  3. If you go to the top of the screen and scroll down, you can manage all the settings of your phone like wifi, Bluetooth, light preferences. You can also switch off the notifications from the apps if you wish.

2. How to setup your scanner

Important: Make sure to plan and test your access control setup in advance so everything runs smoothly on event day. If you need support, reach out early enough—last-minute help outside office hours won’t be possible for equipment that was sent by Smeetz several days before.

Rented equipment is set up by Smeetz, especially when using the Android App. If you need assistance upon reception of your scanner with the Android app, please reach out to your Account Manager. WebApp scanning is in self-service. Any question regarding equipment delivery can be addressed to your account manager.

Purchased equipment by the organizer has to be set-up by them following these guidelines:

1. Install the battery

  1. Insert the battery, bottom first, into the battery compartment at the back of the device.

  2. Press the battery down into the battery compartment until the battery release latches snap into place.

Before using the device for the first time, charge the main battery (the charger is included with your Zebra) until the charging/notification light becomes green. To charge the device use a cable or a cradle with the appropriate power supply.

  • The standard battery charges from fully depleted to 90% in approximately 3 hours.

  • The extended battery charges from fully depleted to 90% in approximately 4 hours.

  • In many cases, the 90% charge is enough for daily use.

2. Configure the device (administrator settings)

  1. Connect to wifi (mandatory) > select and connect to a server.

  2. Create a new user with Gmail or connect with your Gmail login.

  3. Define a default language.

  4. For security reasons define a password to block your home screen.

  5. Follow the steps and upload the mandatory apps.

After a suspension or screen time-out, the Home screen displays with the lock slider. Touch the screen and slide up to unlock.

3. Add the Smeetz WebApp on your home screen

Follow this procedure to install the app on your Zebra home screen:

  1. Go to Chrome "app.smeetz.com".

  2. Click on the three buttons at the top right of your screen.

  3. Click on Add to Home Screen.

  4. Rename / place the application where you want.

4. Configure the DataWedge

1. Open DataWedge on the Scanner

  • On the scanner, open the "DataWedge" app.

2. Create a New Profile

  • Tap on the three vertical dots (top right corner).

  • Select "New Profile".

  • Name the profile "Smeetz".

3. Disable Other Profiles

  • Tap on any existing active profile.

  • Uncheck "Profile Enabled" to disable it.

  • Go to the "Smeetz" profile and enable it ☑.

4. Link the Profile to Google Chrome (applicable for bot WebApp and Android App)

  • In the Smeetz profile, tap on "Associated Apps".

  • Tap on three vertical dots (top right corner).

  • Select "Add a new activity".

  • Add Android Google Chrome:

    • Select com.android.chrome

    • Choose "*" (wildcard)

5. Configure Keystroke Output Settings

In the Smeetz profile, ensure the following settings are enabled under Keystroke Output:

  • Enable "Keystroke Output"

  • Click on "Key Event Options"

    • Enable "Send Characters as Events"

  • Click on "Basic Data Formatting"

    • Enable "Send Data"

    • Enable "Send Enter Key"

6. Change some settings

  1. Change the sound settings: press the volume buttons on the device to display on-screen volume controls.

  2. Display the battery percentage

  3. And set a longer time before screen get locked

7. Test your scanner

  1. Click on your app Smeetz and log into your account

  2. Create a ticket on Smeetz OR scan an existing ticket.

  3. Click on the 9 little squares > ticket scanner.

  4. Select a product.

  5. Type of scan: scan and validate.

  6. Click on the two yellow buttons on your scanner.

  7. Check if your ticket has been scanned.

3. Additional Information

TC20 scanners are outdated and may not meet the minimum performance needed for smooth scanning.
